Police have apprehended a 28-year-old man, Bharat, tied to the 2017 gang-rape incident in Delhi's Sultanpuri area, years after he was declared a proclaimed offender. Bharat, originally from Timarpur, was taken into custody after a trap was set by local law enforcement on Friday, according to authorities.
Initially arrested for his alleged role in the kidnapping and rape case back in 2017, Bharat absconded following his release on bail before a court could sanction him officially as an offender earlier this year. The recent operation leveraged updated intelligence hinting at his expected meeting with associates near Rajpura Road, which culminated in his arrest.
Beyond the high-profile 2017 case, Bharat's criminal record reveals a history of offences, including a 2016 breach of the Excise Act, attempted murder charges in 2020, and assault in 2021. Authorities are continuing to investigate his past actions and current connections as they conduct further inquiries.
