Heroic Sacrifice: Honoring a Soldier's Valor in Jammu and Kashmir

A wreath-laying ceremony was conducted to pay tribute to a soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice in battling terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district. The operation aimed at countering terrorism has now extended into its third day, according to officials.

At the Indian Air Force Station in Jammu, Major General P S Dagar, Chief of Staff of White Knight Corps, led this poignant ceremony. The soldier, Lance Dafadar Baldev Chand, was later honored as his remains were transported to his hometown in Himachal Pradesh for the final rites.

Deputy Inspector General Shridhar Patil and various civil officers also attended to pay their respects. The soldier was critically injured during a terrorist ambush on a joint search team of the Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police's Special Operations Group. Despite immediate medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries. The ongoing search operation employs drones and sniffer dogs but has yet to make contact with the fleeing terrorists.
