The Odisha Assembly descended into chaos on Monday as opposition BJD and Congress members disrupted proceedings over contentious issues concerning panchayat powers.
As the House convened for its morning session, BJD members vocally criticized the BJP-led government's decision to enhance the financial authority of block development officers (BDOs) and engineers, demanding a rollback.
Despite Speaker Surama Padhy's appeals, relentless agitations led to the adjournment of the session. Outside, opposition leaders accused the BJD and BJP of a secret alliance. A no-confidence motion from Congress was stymied due to the discord.
