On Monday, Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav called for a strengthening of the Central Pollution Control Board's (CPCB) capacity to accommodate urban and industrial growth in alignment with environmental standards. This message was delivered during an event commemorating the CPCB's 51st foundation day.
Yadav urged that environmental protection become a core civic value rather than an emergency response, citing the importance of evolving regulatory mechanisms to address contemporary challenges. He drew attention to Delhi's burgeoning population, pressuring the Yamuna River, raising concerns over sewage treatment constraints.
The minister advocated for bolstered laboratories, collaboration with research institutions, and scaling up new technologies. He underscored the role of behavioral change alongside scientific advancements in fulfilling India's ambition of a USD 5 trillion economy without compromising environmental responsibilities.
