In a decisive move aligning with judicial directives, the Uttar Pradesh government has mandated a sweeping removal of caste indicators from police and public records. This action is in direct compliance with a September 16 Allahabad High Court ruling designed to curtail caste-based discrimination.

The directive came into effect following orders issued to all police units and district administrations. Officiating chief secretary Deepak Kumar confirmed that caste of accused individuals would no longer be documented in police logs or case papers, and vehicles displaying caste-based identifiers would incur penalties under the Motor Vehicles Act.

Additionally, the state's Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) portal will be revised to exclude caste fields. Further measures include the removal of caste-signifying boards, the prohibition of caste-centric rallies, and vigilant monitoring of social media for caste-promoting content, ensuring strict compliance and raising awareness among officers.
