The Punjab Police have undertaken a significant crackdown on drug smuggling, with the 'Yudh Nashian Virudh' campaign resulting in over 31,000 arrests and the recovery of more than 1,300 kg of heroin in just seven months, officials announced on Thursday.

The campaign, which started on March 1, aims to rid Punjab of its drug issue through a three-pronged strategy. This approach, endorsed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, encompasses enforcement, deaddiction, and prevention. Efforts have been intensified under the guidance of Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, with daily operations in all 28 police districts.

In these concerted efforts, apart from heroin, law enforcement seized 437 kg of opium, poppy husk, charas, ganja, ICE, and millions of intoxicant tablets, alongside substantial drug money. The initiative also involves a Cabinet Sub-Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema to oversee this war on drugs.
