The Assam Police have charged Siddharth Sharma, manager of the late Zubeen Garg, and festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta with murder in connection to the singer's death in Singapore, a high-ranking official announced Thursday.
The duo was apprehended in Delhi on Wednesday, and both are currently under police custody for a 14-day remand, according to Munna Prasad Gupta, the Special DGP of CID at Assam Police. The investigation remains ongoing, with Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) now added to the FIR, dealing with punishments for murder.
Sharma and Mahanta face charges under various BNS sections pertaining to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy, and negligence causing death. Shyamkanu Mahanta is notably the younger sibling of former DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta and familial connections extending to Nani Gopal Mahanta, former education advisor to the Assam Chief Minister.
