In a significant legal move, Gitanjali Angmo, wife of climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, has petitioned the Supreme Court for his immediate release.
Wangchuk was detained on September 26 under the National Security Act after protests in Ladakh, which demanded statehood and Sixth Schedule status, led to fatalities and injuries.
Angmo's plea, filed via lawyer Sarvam Ritam Khare, challenges the grounds for detention, asserting a breach of legal procedures and lack of contact with Wangchuk, while authorities deny accusations of targeting him.
