The district administration has enforced the stringent National Security Act (NSA) against eight individuals implicated in communal violence during a Durga idol immersion procession last year. The order was formalized by District Magistrate Akshay Tripathi on September 30 and announced by police on Thursday.
Bazraich Superintendent of Police, Ram Nayan Singh, reported that the October 2024 violence resulted in the death of a young Hindu man. Accused individuals Maroof Ali, Nankau, Mohammad Fahim, Mohammad Afzal, Mohammad Zeeshan, Javed, Shoeb Khan, and Saif Ali have been detained since last year.
The police recommendation led to the invocation of the NSA to ensure law and order, peace, and public safety in the district. The unrest occurred on October 13, 2024, due to music played on a DJ system during the immersion procession in Mahsi. The violence claimed one life, injured several, and resulted in significant property damage, including the burning of homes, shops, and vehicles.
