In a historic step towards enhancing urban transportation, Varanasi witnessed the trial run of India's first public transport ropeway on Thursday. Overseen by the Varanasi Development Authority, this ambitious 3.8 km corridor was designed with five strategically placed stations, providing spacious waiting areas and passenger facilities.

Costing an estimated Rs 815 crore, which includes 15 years of operation and maintenance, the project features 148 gondolas capable of transporting nearly one lakh passengers daily. This venture is a proud initiative under the stewardship of the National Highway Logistics Management Limited, a sister entity of the National Highways Authority of India.

The Uttar Pradesh budget for 2023-24 prioritized significant improvements in rail and ropeway connectivity, with a special focus on the Varanasi project. A visionary project propelled by the Yogi government's commitment to infrastructure development, it signifies a modern approach to urban transit solutions.
