The Madras High Court has taken decisive action by ordering the establishment of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the tragic stampede that occurred on September 27 during a rally led by actor-politician Vijay in Karur. This decision came after the tragic event claimed 41 lives and injured more than 60 individuals.
The SIT will be led by senior IPS officer Asra Garg, who is currently serving as the Inspector General of Police for the North Zone. Under his leadership, the investigation aims to uncover the circumstances surrounding the disaster.
The court's initiative also included strong criticism of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay's political group, whose functionaries were scrutinized for their role in the tragic incident.
