Shoe Scandal in India's Supreme Court: Lawyer Targets Chief Justice
A lawyer attempted to throw an object at India's Chief Justice B.R. Gavai over remarks about the Hindu god Vishnu. The incident occurred in the Supreme Court, sparking an outcry from the legal community. Gavai emphasized respect for all religions, while misinformation is cited as the attack's trigger.

An incident in India's Supreme Court unfolded on Monday when a lawyer attempted to throw what seemed to be a shoe at Chief Justice B.R. Gavai. Eyewitnesses and media reported that this was in retaliation to remarks Gavai allegedly made concerning the Hindu god Vishnu.
During previous court proceedings, Gavai was reported to have suggested that the petitioner, who sought the replacement of a damaged statue, should ask the deity itself. The plea was dismissed, further fueling discontent.
Amidst rising tension, security personnel intervened, preventing the lawyer from executing his plan. The Chief Justice requested proceedings to continue uninterrupted. Legal bodies have condemned the act as it goes against the dignity of the profession, with social media misinformation being blamed for inciting the attack.
