According to police reports, five men were arrested for allegedly lynching Hariom, who was mentally unstable and mistaken for a thief. The incident has drawn attention to the increasing instances of crimes against Dalits in Uttar Pradesh.
Congress leaders have emphasized that the state's deteriorating law and order situation under BJP governance highlights systemic failures. They insist on justice for the victim and argue that the Constitution, a safeguard against oppression, must be upheld to protect marginalized communities.
