The Supreme Court has demanded an explanation from both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Madhya Pradesh government over delays in detaining two policemen associated with a custodial death case involving a 24-year-old man.

A bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and R Mahadevan highlighted the state's inaction until a contempt petition provoked an arrest. They questioned the absence of arrests despite a May 15 order.

Following updates by Additional Solicitor General Raja Thakare confirming the officers' arrests, the Court has requested detailed reports on any departmental action against them, ahead of a hearing set for November 6.
