Supreme Court Set to Reassess Anticipatory Bail in Saradha Chit Fund Scam
The Supreme Court will review the CBI's plea against anticipatory bail for Rajeev Kumar, a senior IPS officer implicated in the Saradha chit fund scam. Despite being granted bail in 2019, the case remains contentious with involvement of high-profile figures like Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, adding complexity to the legal discourse.

The Supreme Court is preparing to scrutinize the Central Bureau of Investigation's (CBI) appeal challenging the anticipatory bail granted to senior IPS officer Rajeev Kumar. This development arises in connection with Kumar's alleged involvement in the high-profile Saradha chit fund scam case.
A bench led by Chief Justice B R Gavai, accompanied by Justice K Vinod Chandran, has scheduled the hearing for Friday, October 17. This decision follows intense presentations by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who urged the court to consider the CBI's plea alongside other related petitions to gain a comprehensive view of the case.
The case has seen heightened tensions, including a standoff between the Centre and the West Bengal government, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee vocally supporting Kumar. The CBI contends that Kumar's arrest and custodial interrogation are necessary, despite the Calcutta High Court's decision to grant him bail under certain conditions.
