Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday criticized Arvind Kejriwal's recent request for the recusal of a high court judge in the excise policy case, labeling it 'unfortunate' and detrimental to public trust in democratic institutions.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma of the Delhi High Court refused to step down, reinforcing the principle that the judiciary's independence, impartiality, and dignity are inviolable. Gupta stressed that such actions not only question judicial integrity but also erode confidence in the justice system.
Kejriwal, among others accused in the case regarding alleged corruption in liquor policy implementation, challenged Justice Sharma's involvement. Despite objections, the court emphasized that no individual is above due process or legal scrutiny, affirming the judiciary's role as a pillar of democracy.
