Russian forces have successfully captured approximately 1,700 square kilometers of territory in Ukraine so far this year, with notable advances made towards the strategic Donbas region, according to Moscow's top military official.

Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, reported that 80 settlements are now under Russian control, as per footage distributed by the defense ministry. Meanwhile, Ukraine has also noted some successful territorial recoveries amid the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II.

Tensions remain high as both forces continue to vie for control over critical areas. The combat zones are frequently shifting, with reports of thwarted Russian advances near Sloviansk and intensive battles around Kostiantynivka, highlighting the complex dynamics of the ongoing conflict.
