The Supreme Court has put pressure on the Ministry of Labour and Employment by demanding a detailed affidavit detailing actions taken against the inter-state trafficking of bonded labourers, including minors.
During a hearing, Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta instructed the Ministry to submit the affidavit within three weeks, outlining both current measures and potential future directives needed from the court. The petition, which emphasizes the enforcement of fundamental rights for trafficked individuals, prompted the court's engagement.
Attorney General R Venkataramani noted recent advancements, while a proposal, still under development, aims to streamline the process by addressing rescue efforts and immediate financial support for bonded labourers. The case will be revisited on May 19 to assess progress and enforce necessary changes.
