The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has filed a complaint with Chennai police against K Selvaperunthagai, Tamil Nadu Congress president. He is accused of falsely alleging that the Income-Tax Department confined him unlawfully during an election period.
The CBDT clarified that they never conducted any raids or enforcement actions against Selvaperunthagai, countering claims made by him and circulated in the media. The allegations have been reported to the Election Commission of India.
The Department's statement followed a verification exercise in the Sriperumbudur area, which found the claims to be baseless. Legal action has been sought against Selvaperunthagai for spreading false information.
