The court has ruled against the unauthorized use of PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss' photograph in election campaigns without his explicit consent. This decision comes as the campaign period for the upcoming poll wraps up, with voting scheduled for April 23.
Dr S Ramadoss, in defense of his constitutional right to privacy, petitioned the court to restrict Dr Anbumani Ramadoss and 18 PMK MLA candidates from exploiting his name and image to influence voters. The court acknowledged the likelihood of campaign materials already in circulation and exempted them to prevent disrupting election activities.
Judge Dharmaprabu M ordered that no new campaign materials featuring Dr S Ramadoss' photograph should be distributed henceforth to avert any violation of his rights. The legal action continues, with further hearings set for June 4, allowing respondents time to formally address the petition.
