Tragedy in Solan: Teen's Drowning Sparks Safety Concerns

A 16-year-old boy from Chandigarh tragically drowned in a stream in Solan district, Himachal Pradesh, according to local police reports on Wednesday. Identified as Saurabh Kumar, the teen met his fate in the Nawanagar stream in Baddi area on Tuesday.
Saurabh's brother, Sonu Kumar, recounted that a friend, Prince, relayed the distressing news of the drowning in the evening. Family members, along with locals, immediately initiated a search. Police were alerted around 7 PM, continuing the search through the night. An NDRF team recovered the body on Wednesday morning, which was sent for post-mortem at Nalagarh Civil Hospital.
The incident has stirred local concerns regarding safety, citing negligent patrolling and substance abuse in the area. Villagers, frustrated with the lack of action from authorities despite previous complaints, have demanded measures such as CCTV installation, regular patrolling, and a police post to enhance security in the vulnerable location.
