Delhi Police have achieved a major breakthrough by capturing Virkesh, an offender who evaded arrest for 14 years. Originally from Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Virkesh was involved in a 2012 robbery-cum-abduction case in Dwarka South.
The Crime Branch's Central Range team apprehended him in Chandigarh, where he had been living under a false identity. According to police reports, the incident occurred on February 6, 2012, when two assailants overpowered a cab driver during his duty, robbed him, and fled with his vehicle. While an accomplice was arrested initially, Virkesh managed to remain at large, eventually being declared a proclaimed offender.
Acting on new intelligence, police traced Virkesh to Chandigarh, where he posed as a gas cylinder supplier to evade detection. He is linked to 13 criminal cases, including robbery and theft. His arrest was achieved through sustained technical surveillance and coordinated field operations, marking a significant success for the Crime Branch.
