Public Safety Act Enforced Amid Unrest in Sopore

Six individuals were arrested under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in Baramulla district's Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir, on Friday. The local police cited their involvement in recent disruptions of law and order during a student protest as the reason for their detention.

The detained individuals include Umar Akbar Hajam, Salman Ahmed Shala, Altaf Ahmed Sheikh, Mubashir Ahmed Gilkar, Muzammil Mushtaq Changa, and Majid Firdous Dar. They were reportedly involved in acts of vandalism and attempted to disturb the peace, prompting detainment after obtaining proper warrants from the District Magistrate.

The police emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards activities threatening public peace and safety. Investigations are ongoing, with more individuals involved in these disturbances under scrutiny for legal action, including detention under the PSA. This follows protests sparked by an alleged sexual assault at a local girls' school.
