The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) has taken a firm stance against noise pollution by implementing a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). The initiative focuses on rigorous enforcement, setting time-bound actions on complaints and monitoring, while imposing penalties on those who don't adhere to environment guidelines.
According to the SOP, complaints of noise pollution, including disturbances from commercial establishments like restaurants and pubs, must be formally recorded and addressed across the city. The procedure outlines a strict timeline for action, requiring noise to be monitored within three days when necessary, ensuring compliance with the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.
The SOP emphasizes accountability by necessitating coordination between Sub-Divisional Magistrates and police to curb excessive noise, and mandates that offenders directly pay penalties to the DPCC. Aimed at enhancing transparency, the SOP requires thorough and scientific noise assessments, aligning with court orders to improve administrative measures on noise pollution in Delhi.
