The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) announced on Friday that it has taken action regarding the tragic explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu, which claimed at least 23 lives and injured several others.
Reports indicate the explosion was caused by friction during the chemical mixing process. On the same note, NHRC is seeking detailed reports from Tamil Nadu's chief secretary and Virudhunagar's Superintendent of Police regarding the health and welfare of the injured, the ongoing investigation, and any compensation dispersed.
In related events, NHRC also demands accountability from Chhattisgarh officials due to a similar tragic incident at a thermal power plant, and in Odisha, where an iron gate collapse led to student fatalities. These incidents exemplify widespread safety concerns necessitating urgent oversight.
