A bench of Justices J J Munir and Tarun Saxena called into question the police's approach of registering FIRs against consensual marriages, urging the Uttar Pradesh DGP to implement remedial measures in such cases.
The court directed that no person has the right to control the life choices of consenting adults, equating such police actions with a serious infringement on personal liberty.
