Breaking the Glass Gavel: Women in Judiciary

Justice Sharmila Deshmukh of the Bombay High Court has emphasized the critical need for increased female representation in the judiciary, citing their leadership, analytical skills, and sensitivity as crucial to its evolution. Her remarks came during the 51st convocation ceremony of TMC Law College.

Addressing an audience of 150 graduating students, Justice Deshmukh celebrated the growing presence of women in law and highlighted the emerging opportunities in the legal industry. She encouraged the new cohort to seize diverse career paths within the profession.

Supporting her sentiments, Thane's principal district court judge, S. B. Agrawal, cautioned students against shortcuts and reinforced the view of law as a compassionate social service. Agrawal stressed that long-term success is built on diligence, ethics, and a strong social commitment.
