Supreme Court Demands Accountability Amid Strikes at Gautam Buddha Nagar Court

The Supreme Court has stepped in to address the ongoing strikes affecting the Gautam Buddha Nagar district court, ordering action against Bar Association officials at the Allahabad High Court. This follows yet another instance where resolutions were passed to abstain from work, despite prior judicial orders.

Led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, the bench—including Justice Joymalya Bagchi—responded to a case brought by Virendra Singh, expressing concern over the continued defiance of a 2024 Supreme Court judgment. This ruling had clearly restrained district bar associations from such abstentions.

The bench emphasized that swifter action is necessary and directed the district and sessions judge of Gautam Buddha Nagar to send detailed reports of non-compliance to the High Court's Registrar General, urging immediate punitive measures against those responsible.
