Authorities in Sri Lanka have arrested over 600 foreign nationals this year in connection to cybercrime operations, police announced on Tuesday. The crackdown involves individuals from India, China, Vietnam, Myanmar, and other countries.
The majority of these arrests took place in popular suburbs around Colombo, and police are urging locals to inform them about rented properties. This marks a significant effort by law enforcement to target foreign-led criminal groups operating digitally.
Experts suggest that Sri Lanka's convenient connectivity and visa policies may have inadvertently made it a hotspot for such activities, highlighting the role of global syndicates exploiting digital networks for criminal gains.
