Tragic Oversight: MCD's Costly Neglect of Mukundpur Drain

The Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) Department had urged the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to take management of the Mukundpur drain, the scene of a fatal incident involving a two-year-old girl, government sources confirmed.

Located between Gujjar Chowk and Ramlila Ground, the Mukundpur drain falls under smaller drains that the MCD typically manages. I&FC's communication emphasized the need for MCD to maintain these drains to avoid causing local inconvenience.

Despite the request, responsibility was not assumed. Sources highlighted that the drain's sub-four-feet width makes it the civic body's duty to maintain. In response to the tragic event, a junior engineer was terminated under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's orders, who expressed profound distress over the incident.
