Tamil Nadu CM Orders Closure of 717 Liquor Outlets, Amplifying Public Welfare

In a move aimed at enhancing public welfare, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has directed the shutdown of 717 retail liquor outlets statewide. This initiative includes the closure of 276 outlets located near places of worship.

The decision comes in response to increasing demands, particularly from women and various political parties, advocating for the complete shutdown of liquor shops inside the state.

The Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac), which operates a total of 4,765 liquor outlets statewide, will implement the closures over the next two weeks, thus addressing public concerns regarding the proximity of these outlets to sensitive locations like educational institutions and bus stands.
