Karnataka Criticizes NEET UG 2026 Cancellation and Demands Examination Reforms

Karnataka's School Education and Literacy Minister, S Madhu Bangarappa, voiced his concerns on Tuesday about the Central government's decision to cancel NEET UG 2026. Highlighting the mental toll on students, he criticized the move as disruptive and called for a comprehensive CBI probe into the alleged irregularities.

The minister argued that the sudden announcement of a re-exam has adversely affected students who devoted years of tireless study. He highlighted efforts to alleviate academic stress at the school level, criticizing what he deemed irresponsible actions by the Centre that exacerbate anxiety and despair among students and parents.

Bangarappa questioned the Centre's priorities, noting its focus on lifestyle changes rather than its fundamental duty of conducting a secure examination. He also challenged local BJP leaders' silence, urging them to address what he sees as a significant failure in maintaining the integrity of the exam system. He insisted that ordering a CBI probe isn't sufficient and called for comprehensive reforms.
