The arrest of Raj Singh, linked to the murder of Chandranath Rath, an aide to West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, has sparked controversy as his counsel welcomes a CBI probe into the case.

Singh's lawyer, Harivansh Singh, accused the West Bengal Police of bypassing legal procedures during his client's arrest in Ayodhya, where officers allegedly should have obtained a transit remand for his transfer to West Bengal, but instead took him directly to Kolkata.

The CBI has now taken over the murder investigation, responding to a request by the state government, amid claims from Singh's mother accusing the police of framing her son in Rath's May 6th assassination.
