Violence has re-emerged in Manipur as more than 38 individuals from the Naga and Kuki communities are reportedly held hostage by various factions in the state. The situation intensified on Wednesday when suspected militants killed three church leaders and injured others in Kangpokpi district.
Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam commented on the dire situation, emphasizing active negotiations with civil society and political leaders to ensure the release of hostages. The Home Ministry has been apprised of the developments, with the state's government suspecting that certain factions seek to perpetuate unrest.
In the aftermath, separate protests by Naga and Kuki communities erupted, demanding the safe return of abducted individuals. Demonstrations impacted normal life across Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Chandel districts, revealing the depth of the crisis affecting the region.
