The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal following an announcement by Delhi High Court's Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma to initiate criminal contempt proceedings against him. The controversy stems from alleged defamatory content posted by AAP leaders on social media platforms, targeting the judge.
In response to the proceedings, BJP notables, including spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla, criticized Kejriwal's approach to the judiciary and other constitutional authorities. They accused him of routinely making baseless allegations and subsequently retracting them. Poonawalla emphasizes that Kejriwal's tactic of attacking the judiciary over unfavorable proceedings poses a threat to judicial independence.
Justice Sharma, in her ruling, remarked that Kejriwal orchestrated a deliberate campaign against her, instead of choosing legal avenues to address his grievances. While she recuses herself from the case, proceedings against Kejriwal will continue under another bench. The BJP is firmly calling for Kejriwal to face legal consequences for his actions against the judiciary.
