The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha Biswas on charges of fraud and extortion. The arrest followed over ten hours of intense questioning at the ED's office in Kolkata.
Biswas, who is part of the Security Control division, was apprehended after repeatedly failing to provide satisfactory responses regarding his alleged involvement with the Sona Pappu network, infamous for land grabbing and financial irregularities. A lookout circular was previously issued by the agency against Biswas, who had ignored multiple interrogation summons.
Investigators are scrutinizing Biswas's purported connections with businessman Joy Kamdar, closely linked to Sona Pappu. Suspicions extend to his role in illegal sand trafficking and previous arms recovery incidents. As the investigation advances, Biswas is set to appear before a special court.
