The Thane Crime Branch has successfully arrested two women implicated in a series of jewellery thefts totalling nine incidents. The suspects primarily targeted elderly bus passengers, with stolen gold ornaments valued at Rs 37.19 lakh.

The breakthrough in the case occurred after a complaint from a 72-year-old woman, who reported her gold-encrusted purse missing after a bus journey from Kharegaon Naka to Ozone Valley in Thane. Armed with CCTV footage and technical insights, the crime unit pinpointed the perpetrators, arresting them on May 7.

The women, identified as Sangeeta Dashrath Peethkar and Surekha Bajrang Gaikwad, both hail from Mulund, a locality bordering Thane. Authorities are continuing their investigation to unravel further details of their criminal activities.
