Elon Musk's X has reached an agreement to bolster protections for UK users against illegal hate speech and terrorist content, according to the UK's media regulator, Ofcom, on Friday. The decision follows months of regulatory scrutiny aimed at ensuring safer online interactions.

Under this new agreement, X commits to reviewing suspected illegal hate and terrorism-related posts within an average of 24 hours and assessing a minimum of 85% of these within 48 hours. Despite regularly stating its enforcement of bans on illegal groups and content, X has not immediately responded to requests for comment.

The move comes after heightened focus on hate speech in the UK, particularly following anti-Semitic attacks. X will also provide quarterly performance data to Ofcom and engage with external experts to enhance its reporting mechanisms, amid continuing global regulatory pressure on tech platforms to manage illicit content effectively.
