Taiwan Strengthens US Ties Amid China Tensions
Taiwan aims to deepen its relationship with the United States after President Trump's discussions in Beijing. As China strengthens its regional military activities, Taiwan remains committed to cooperating with the US, underscoring the ongoing tensions involving arms sales and regional stability.
In a recent development, Taiwan has vowed to bolster its ties with the United States, following talks between former President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. Taiwan's Foreign Minister, Lin Chia-lung, emphasized the importance of this alliance, citing China's escalating regional risks as a key concern.
President Trump, during his journey back from China, mentioned deliberations with President Xi about American arms sales to Taiwan, spotlighting an area of contention in US-China relations. The United States remains Taiwan's principal international ally, while China has persistently opposed these arms agreements, asserting its claim over Taiwan.
Lin assured that Taiwan has consistently been a source of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. He highlighted the unchanged US policy towards Taiwan, reinforced by remarks from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Lin also condemned China's military expansion as the main threat to regional peace and the international order.
