The Imam of the historic Nakhoda Mosque in Kolkata has urged the Muslim community to avoid cow sacrifices, emphasizing respect for Hindu sentiments. His appeal follows a new West Bengal government notification complicating animal slaughter due to insufficient infrastructure.

Maulana Mohammad Shafiq Qasmi suggested a national ban on cow slaughter if the government fails to improve the current systems. He highlighted that guidelines now require a 'fit certificate' for slaughter, only permitting animals that are either above 14 years old or permanently incapacitated.

Qasmi also reiterated the importance of adhering to noise regulations for loudspeakers in mosques, referencing Supreme Court-guided decibel limits. The Imam called for cooperation with authorities, following some reports of improper enforcement in rural areas.
