Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar addressed the concerns surrounding a proposed limestone mining project in Jaintia Hills during a meeting with stakeholders. He emphasized the state government's commitment to examining objections raised by pressure groups and villagers.
Villagers and members of the Jaintia National Council and Jaintia Students' Union have alleged irregularities in public hearing and environmental clearance associated with the project at Daistong village. This comes in the wake of a protest rally by youth organizations opposing potential environmental and legal violations.
Dhar stated that discussions with Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma, who heads the Forest department, are pending. The review aims to assess the adherence to established processes and the broader implications of the project.
