The Enforcement Directorate has intensified its crackdown on illegal land dealings and extortion in South Kolkata by arresting Biswajit Poddar, infamously known as 'Sona Pappu', officials confirmed on Monday night.
Following a rigorous nine-hour interrogation at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake, Kolkata, Poddar was detained amidst allegations of consistent non-cooperation during the investigation. He had been elusive for nearly three months.
Investigators revealed financial ties between Poddar and arrested Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner Shantanu Sinha Biswas, underscoring potential corruption within law enforcement linked to a crime syndicate. The probe continues to explore any involvement of other influential individuals.
