The Crime Branch of the Odisha Police made a significant breakthrough on Tuesday with the arrest of Binod Kumar Behera in connection with the lynching of GRP constable Soumya Ranjan Swain.
Behera, aged 48, was apprehended from Indupur in Kendrapara district, following precise intelligence gathered during the ongoing investigation. The accused had been on the run since the mob attack on May 7.
The tragic incident unfolded after Swain was tied to a pole and beaten to death by a crowd in Bhingarpur-Kaja, as allegations emerged of an attempted rape following a traffic collision. Police have arrested a total of 16 suspects, while efforts continue to apprehend the remaining individuals involved.
