Delhi's Revamped Ration Card Initiative

The Delhi government has announced a new initiative to streamline its public distribution system. According to Food Supplies Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, the government will begin crediting money to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts, enabling ration card holders to purchase essential commodities.

During a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, it was decided to raise the annual family income cap for ration card eligibility from Rs 1.2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh. This change is expected to expand coverage significantly, allowing lakhs more beneficiaries to benefit from the program.

With around two lakh invalid ration cards canceled recently, the push for new, valid ration cards is underway, with applications now open online. This update aims to make the distribution system more efficient and inclusive.
