In a significant political move, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has pressed for the prompt deportation of alleged illegal Bangladeshi nationals gathering at the Hakimpur checkpoint in Basirhat subdivision, North 24 Parganas district.
Following an administrative meeting in Kalyani, attended by officials from various districts, Adhikari asserted that the individuals at the border point expressed willingness to return to Bangladesh. Highlighting the state's stance, he stated, 'Jaldi jaldi bhago nahi toh jo karna hai sarkar karega,' urging authorities to ensure swift deportation actions.
The directive is part of a broader 'detect, delete and deport' policy, reinforced days after unveiling an anti-infiltration framework. The state has established holding centers to temporarily detain foreign nationals until deportation is finalized, a measure claimed to prevent financial drain and benefit residents of West Bengal.
