The Chief Electoral Officer of Odisha, R S Gopalan, has urged district authorities to proactively counter misinformation on social media concerning the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, starting May 30. This directive was issued at a virtual meeting with district officials, emphasizing the importance of vigilance in maintaining the integrity of the revision process.

District Information and Public Relations Officers have been tasked with monitoring online platforms closely. Gopalan stressed the need for immediate action against false information, suggesting that transparency and simplicity in the door-to-door survey process are crucial. Efforts will focus on keeping the revision error-free and ensuring all eligible voters participate without misinformation hindrance.

Additionally, forms will be available in the local Odia language to improve accessibility for rural populations. Authorities plan to raise public awareness about the registration process through campaigns and the 1950 toll-free election helpline. The aim is to streamline procedures like voter registration and data correction, boosting public confidence in electoral processes.

Deputy CEO Laxmi Prasad Sahu highlighted the strategic use of social and local media for spreading reliable information. There is a push to improve coordination between election officials and district administrations, enhancing efficiency across online application procedures and activating booth-level officers to support voters efficiently.
