A local court has authorized two days of police custody for Bageerath, son of Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar, in connection with a POCSO case. Originally, the police sought three days' custody, but the court approved just two, starting May 27.
On May 16, Bageerath was detained in relation to allegations under the POCSO Act and was subsequently placed in judicial custody at Cherlapally Central Prison. Earlier, the Telangana High Court dismissed his plea for interim protection against arrest. The case originated from a complaint by a 17-year-old girl's mother, accusing Bageerath of being in a relationship with her daughter and committing sexual harassment.
After the girl's statement was recorded, additional charges were applied under the BNS and POCSO Act. Bageerath countered with his own complaint, claiming that the girl had initiated contact and later, her family exerted pressure on him for marriage, coupled with demands for money under threat of false accusations. An FIR was also filed based on his complaint.
