Bihar Boosts Compensation for Land Acquisition to Expedite Public Projects

The Bihar government has decided to offer higher compensation to private landowners whose properties are required for various public welfare initiatives. The announcement was made following a state cabinet meeting chaired by Samrat Choudhary.

For urban areas, compensation will be twice the market value or circle rate, while rural landowners will receive four times the market value or circle rate. An additional 10% incentive will be added, with exemptions from stamp duty and registration fees. These measures intend to speed up public project implementations and minimize acquisition disputes.

The cabinet also approved amendments to enhance the accuracy and transparency of the ongoing land survey process. The 'Bihar Special Survey and Settlement (Amendment) Rules, 2026' aims to update land records, address land dispute issues, and will now extend to urban areas as well.

Additionally, the cabinet introduced the 'Bihar Small and Medium Healthcare Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2026,' effectively bringing regulatory oversight to smaller healthcare facilities, which previously lacked clear guidelines.
