Jairam Ramesh, a senior leader of India's Congress party, highlighted the themes of sustainable, inclusive, and rapid development as central to future policy directions. Speaking at the M P Veerendrakumar Memorial Lecture, he emphasized these challenges must be met to sustain economic growth and societal inclusivity.
According to Ramesh, ensuring environmentally sound growth while fostering inclusivity and maintaining economic momentum is critical to generating employment for millions entering the workforce annually. Regardless of the ruling party, the integration of environmental priorities with development efforts remains crucial in addressing the country's needs over the next decade.
Ramesh also paid tribute to Veerendrakumar, celebrating his contributions to the socialist movement and championing India's rich cultural diversity. Despite threats to this diversity, he noted that the nation's Constitution plays a key role in preserving and celebrating its multicultural heritage.
