Jairam Ramesh, a prominent leader in India's Congress party, affirmed that the guiding principle of policy formulation in the future will be 'SIR'—an acronym for sustainable, inclusive, and rapid development. He conveyed this vision during a lecture honoring the late M P Veerendrakumar.

Ramesh outlined three pivotal challenges India will confront over the coming decade and a half. He emphasized the country's need for environmentally sustainable development, inclusive economic growth that benefits all segments of the society, not just a select few, and a rapid expansion to accommodate the annual influx of seven to eight million new job seekers. Regardless of the political party in power, Ramesh stated that prioritizing environmental integration with economic progress is crucial.

Paying homage to Veerendrakumar, Ramesh highlighted the socialist leader's commitment to India's diversity, culture, and faith, which he noted are under threat. He connected the survival of India's multifaceted society to its Constitution's celebration of diversity, a core aspect of Veerendrakumar's life and message.

Ramesh also reminisced about his personal experiences with Veerendrakumar, recounting his influence and the rich socialist legacy he represented. He noted that while global examples like the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia faltered despite their diversity, India has thrived due to its unique ability to embrace and celebrate its differences.
